Veins are the blood vessels through which blood is returned to the heart. The veins in the legs contain one-way valves that direct the blood in the right direction. If these valves do not function correctly, blood can flow backwards and pool. As a result, this “venous reflux “increases the pressure inside the veins and the veins may begin to stretch resulting in varicose veins and spider veins. This increased pressure can also be transmitted to other connecting veins causing them to reflux.
Many people regard these varicose or spider veins as no more than a cosmetic problem, but vein disease is a progressive condition, which if left untreated, may in some cases lead to serious health problems. Fortunately, with the aid of modern diagnostic and treatment technologies, vein disease is now easily and quickly treatable.
The South Austin Vein Center was established by Dr. Michael Di Iorio, with the goal of providing patients the most advanced and effective treatment along with the personalized care they deserve. It specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of venous reflux disease and its associated conditions such as unsightly varicose and spider veins, leg aching and cramping, leg fatigue, leg swelling and in more severe cases skin changes and even ulcers.
Applying Dr. Di Iorio’s extensive knowledge of vein disease, diagnostic imaging, and minimally invasive procedures, the Center offers a comprehensive range of the most modern diagnostic imaging and treatments available, including:
Patients who receive treatment typically experience greatly reduced symptoms, fewer side effects (if any), and much shorter recovery periods.
No two peoples’ treatment needs are exactly alike. The Center’s overriding priority is to provide patients with individually tailored personalized care in a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment. Unfortunately, this is a priority that is all too easily overlooked by larger, more impersonal practices often now the norm in bigger cities.
Although accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment are obviously essential, it is also vitally important that patients be empowered to understand their individual condition, the advantages and disadvantages of the different treatment options, and anything they can do after their procedure to ensure their continued good health.
Evening and weekend appointments are available for patients’ convenience, and the South Austin Vein Center is committed to taking all the time necessary to ensure the best possible patient experience.
Dr. Di Iorio has been selected as an Austin Top Doctor for the past 3 years. He has formal fellowship training in vein disease treatment and more than 10 years of experience. Dr. Di Iorio has performed over 20,000 vein procedures and has interpreted well over 10,000 ultrasound imaging exams. He moved to the Austin area after previously working at a large vein practice in the Houston area.
“I decided to open my own vein practice where I could take the time to put the patient’s needs first.”
Dr. Di Iorio’s extensive training, specific skill set and commitment to patient care enables him to both accurately diagnose and treat vein disease with the highest standards and best possible outcomes. At South Austin Vein Center we put the needs of our patients first and strive to surpass the highest standards in safety, quality and satisfaction.
